The Angels

Scene 10

After therapy Declan comes home. He yells as he enters the door

Declan (yells)
“Honey I am home”

This is the one place that made Declan feel worth living. That is because he is coming back to my two angels.

Sara yells back from living room
“Come on in dear. Look who is visiting us Today”.

This is his first angel, Sara, Declan’s wife. The tone in her voice indicated trouble.

Declan’s excitement dropped as soon as he walked into the living room and realized who is visiting.

Declan (Unpleasantly)
“Janet and Paul…I mean Mom and dad”

Declan forced a smile on his face.

Paul
“Surprise. Surprise son”

Paul greets Declan. Declan smelled sarcasm clearly. He also points his eyes towards his wife, Janet, who is sitting behind him. She could not see Paul's face. He widens his eyes as if he warns Declan to be prepared for the worst.

Janet
“Is this my hard-working son in law”

Sara mumbles

Mom, you knew he is taking a break

Declan walked towards her. He wanted to greet Janet to give his wife some peace of mind.

Janet hugged Declan without standing up. He had to bend over

Angela
“Dad. Grandma wants us to spend Thanksgiving at her place.”

This is Declan’s other angel. She is turning 6 in a couple of weeks. She seems to be excited to go to Grandma’s house for Thanksgiving

Janet
“Yes Declan. I have invited them. You can also join them”

Sara
“Mom. Be sensitive”

In the middle of conversation between Janet and Say, Paul goes to Angie.

Paul
“Angie! Why don’t you go inside and play in the yard. I think we are going discuss how useless your father is”

As soon as Angelina heard those words, she gave a good stare to his eyes.

Sara had to step in. She got up and literally gave a push to Angelina.

Sara
“Common Honey. Go and play in the bedroom”.

Angie started climbing the stairs and then stopped and said,

Angie
“Grandma I think we will spend Thanksgiving at our home. You two can also join us”.

She did not wait for an answer. I followed her. Sara did not try to stop her. She knows how Declan feels around Janet.

Janet sighs
“Well, now we have two idiots supporting a lazy man”,

Scene 11

Declan could hear Janet and Sara talking behind him as I walked towards his bedroom.

Sara offscreen
“Mom. He is going through a rough patch. He will get better”
Janet offscreen
“When?”

Scene 12

Sara
“It does not matter. When I took my vows, I promised him to support him through his sickness as well. What part of that must I explain to you. Do you realize you are making him sicker? Can’t you be a little bit supportive”

Janet
“For how long? He has been slacking for the last 3 years. How long do you think you can support him? His yolk is shattered. He is of no use anymore. Throw him out”
 

Sara
“That’s up to me to decide. “

Janet
“Do you even know why he is sick? He talks only to his Shrink”

Sara
“I trust Declan. There must be a good reason why he is not sharing all”

Scene 13

  Declan could hear all of them clearly from the bedroom. Angelina forgot about the conflict. She went to her room to play with her toys. Declan wished he could be like a child and forget all. To his sadness he is an adult

Declan decides to take a walk.

As Declan passed them on his way out, no one spoke a word. Janet had a grin on her face. Paul was quiet.

Declan
“Honey. I am going to…may be fill gas to my car or take a walk or both or I will do something “…
“Janet, Paul. It was nice of you to visit. I will meet you later”.

Declan did not wait for them to response. He kept moving.
